Archives & Library

The American Museum of Magic cares for a collection of magic memorabilia featuring over 3,000 posters, 12,000 books, and 20,000 photographs. This includes a unique collection of original photographs by the popular magician and photographer Irving Desfor.

The majority of the museum’s collection is housed in the Lund Memorial Library. This craftsman style building was designed by architect Frederick Spier and built in 1913. Spier also designed many public buildings in Detroit and for the University of Michigan. It served as the Marshall Public Library until 1998, when the Marshall Public Library relocated to a larger building. Elaine Lund, wife of Robert Lund, purchased the building and gifted it to the American Museum of Magic.

While the Lund Memorial Library is not open to the public, research appointments can be made by contacting the museum. All research appointments must be scheduled in advance by calling (269) 781-7570. If you aren’t able to visit our archives, our staff and volunteers can assist with remote research requests. Research fees apply to in-person appointments and research assistance.
